Abby Carbone
Teacher for The Roadrunners
Like many of us, I have wonderful memories of playing outside as a kid. Reading books in trees, splashing in creeks, making magic potions with sticks and mud. Nature has always had a way of bringing me back to my truest self.
When I got to college, I decided to pursue psychology, while simultaneously studying to become a yoga teacher and sound healer. I learned so much about how our minds and bodies work and became really passionate about mental health, mindfulness, and music.
I learned about child development and methods of teaching in some of my classes, but the best learning has come from direct experience. I've taught and guided kids in many environments including the Santa Barbara zoo, Wilderness Youth Project, Spotlight Kids theater camp, and most recently, our local Tinkergarten.
Since having children of my own, everything in my life has been leading me to tune more deeply into my body and the world around me. This role as a forest school teacher holds so much value to me because I not only get to help create a supportive environment for kids to practice these skills, but I get to practice them myself too.
In my spare time, you'll probably find me at a park somewhere with my kiddos, my ukelele, and my longboard. Never hesitate to come say hi!
